Jute Buyers Guide
The finest jute is cultivated on the fertile plains of the Ganges and is one of the softer natural fibres. This humid region lies mostly in Bangladesh and provides the ideal conditions for jute to grow.
At the end of the growing season the plants are harvested and the stalks are soaked in water for up to twenty days. This process allows the long strands of jute fibre to be separated before being left to dry in the warmth of the sun. Known for their silky lustre, jute fibres can be spun into a yarn that is soft to the touch but that wears well once it is woven into a design, making it perfect for floor coverings.
